3-2-1 Tips to Transform Your Closet with Systems That Stay

Decluttering a Closet

Does your wardrobe need a reset? Organizing a closet (and dresser) can be a fun and refreshing experience if you make it one! All it takes is an intention, a system, and the right storage products. Follow this 3-2-1 method for some DIY.

3 Tips for Getting Started on a Closet Refresh

1. First, consider what you will do with discarded items. Will you donate them, pass them on to someone, or use a service to handle them?

Thred Up will consign brand and designer clothing, shoes, and bags by doing the listing and selling for you! But you’ll want to create an account and have bags sent to you before you have piles to fill them.

Trashie will take back clothes that are not being donated in exchange for rewards all while protecting the environment.

2. Start this project on a day and time when you feel most productive. Decide on how much time you want to spend and choose a section.

3. Choose instrumental or lofi beats for music in the background. This allows you to focus and get in flow with making decisions about what should stay and what should go. For an added boost, partner up with someone else who could use a closet refresh.

2 Easy Closet Organizing Products

1. If you really want to streamline your closet, check out these rod dividers with labels. They can be used for adult or kids’ closets. I especially love the “wear more” divider as a mindfulness tactic.

2. A favorite closet organizer I’ve used is this legging hanger. Just clip a pair of yoga pants on—not folding required!

Organizing Inspiration

Once your closet is organized, make it a ritual to assess your wardrobe every season. Seasonal changes are a perfect time to evaluate what you have, swap out items, and ensure everything still fits your lifestyle.

“Being organized is all about the ABC’s: Awareness and Action, Balance and Beliefs, Choices and consistency.”  – Tanya Allason

If organizing all at once is too much, start with one category like shoes or dresses. If you feel too busy or overwhelmed to get your closet organized, you don’t have to go it alone. Reach out for a consultation!
